The AFP hosted a Fun Day for Ronald McDonald House on Thursday 17 November to entertain children and teenagers currently undergoing treatment.

The event was organised by the AFP Southern Command Community Liaison Team and was the first Fun Day with Ronald McDonald House since 2018.

The event catered for the brave children and teenagers who are currently being treated for illnesses, and their supportive families staying at the Ronald McDonald House in Parkville, Melbourne.

Over 30 AFP members volunteered on the day and participated in a range of activities including a puppet show, fingerprinting, a petting zoo, meeting AFP canines, inspecting police vehicles, and having police dress ups.

Assistant Commissioner Krissy Barrett said the AFP was delighted to be hosting this event and engaging with very special people at Ronald McDonald House.

“Ronald McDonald House holds special significance for the AFP, with some of our members and their families having spent time here, and our 30 volunteers were proud to try and make the day memorable for the children and their families,” AC Barrett said.

“It was incredible to see all the children getting involved in the activities, and I think we even recruited a couple of future police officers at the end of the event.”

The Southern Command Community Liaison Team provides educational, creative and engagement-driven initiatives helping to build positive and cohesive relationships with communities across Victoria.

Ronald McDonald House is an independent charity which helps families of very ill children by providing accommodation to keep families together and close to the care their child needs.
