Celebrate Christmas in City 11 November
A 16 metre tall Christmas tree in City Walk has been installed to mark the start of the Christmas in the City celebrations.
From 1 December, City Walk will be transformed into an Insta-worthy ‘Christmas Walk’ with installations and a packed program of performances, all complemented by an online Advent calendar of festive offers from local businesses.
“Canberrans are invited to enjoy the festive season right here in the City Centre. The decorations this year will create a great holiday experience, stretching between the Canberra Times fountain and Garema Place.
“Whether Canberrans are popping out for a bit of Christmas shopping, celebrating with friends or taking that classic family photo with Santa, there’s something for everyone in City Walk in the lead up to Christmas.
“Free activities are important ways to encourage people to shop, eat out and get out and about, and we’re pleased to offer many activities that will bring friends and family into the City Centre to celebrate.”
The Celebrate Christmas in the City 2022 program from 1 December, includes:
Christmas Walk
Take a stroll along City Walk – now ‘Christmas Walk’ – dressed with all the trimmings of the festive season. This immersive experience features a giant Christmas tree, uniquely Canberran Christmas installations, a tunnel of magical fairy lights, and plenty of photo opportunities. Of course, a stop by to visit Santa in the Canberra Centre, near the Canberra Times Fountain entrance is also a must.
Christmas performances
The City Centre will come to life with Christmas-themed roving performances, singing, dancing and entertainment every Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoon for the first three weekends in December.
Advent calendar
The City Centre Christmas Countdown is a digital Advent calendar that will be active from 1 December, revealing fantastic festive offers from local businesses each day in the lead up to Christmas.
