EPA plan must be implemented urgently, veterinarians say
Following its submission to the NSW Environment Protection Authority’s Climate Change Policy and Action Plan, Vets for Climate Action CEO, Tara O’Connell, said:
“The EPA’s Policy and Action Plan recognises that communities, businesses and the economy can, to some degree, adjust and adapt to the existing and anticipated effects of climate change. However most animals (companion, livestock and wildlife) cannot or will not be able to adapt in time, risking further extinctions and biodiversity loss.
“Vets have asked that the timeframes for action be tightened in the EPA draft plan and we have encouraged the EPA to use its full range of powers prior to 2025 to ensure the NSW Government’s net zero targets are achieved as planned.
“Climate change is not a future problem. It is with us now, we are seeing the impacts all around us with the floods and before that bushfires, and there is no time to delay.”
