Man charged following DV assault and chainsaw threat in Kingsgrove

A man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting a woman and threatening another man with a chainsaw in Sydney’s south.

Officers from St George Police Area Command were called to Kingsgrove yesterday (Thursday 24 January 2019), following reports a man had been threatened with a chainsaw by a man known to him.

Police have been told a 47-year-old man and 42-year-old woman were involved in a domestic-related argument at a house on Rayment Avenue, Kingsgrove, in the early hours of Tuesday (22 January 2019).

The man allegedly assaulted the woman, resulting in facial injuries, before leaving the premises.

Just before 5pm yesterday, the 47-year-old man attended a house on Kingsgrove Road, Kingsgrove, where the woman was visiting the resident – a 48-year-old man.

The two men became involved in a verbal argument, and police will allege the younger man followed the older man from the home, through a nearby shopping centre in Kingsgrove, threatening him with a chainsaw.

Following inquiries, the younger man was arrested and taken to Kogarah Police Station.

The Hurstville man was charged with intentionally choke person with recklessness (DV), assault occasioning actual bodily harm (DV), use offensive weapon with intent to commit indictable offence, stalk/intimidate intend fear physical harm (DV), intimidate police officer in execution of duty.

Police will also allege in court that the man threatened police officers while in custody.

He was refused bail to appear at Sutherland Local Court today (Friday 25 January 2019).

Investigations into the incident are continuing and police are appealing for anyone who was in the area at the time of the incident and has not yet spoken to police to come forward.
