Three charged over shooting in Campbelltown

Three men will appear in court today after being charged with shooting at a car and robbery offences at Appin yesterday.

Shortly after 7.15pm on Tuesday 29 January 2019, police received reports that two vehicles had been seen driving erratically along Appin Road.

The vehicles were described as a white Mitsubishi Magna occupied by three men and a black Holden Commodore containing a 36-year-old man and two women aged 28 and 33 years of age.

It is believed the erratic driving continued as the vehicles travelled south towards the outskirts of Appin, where the Holden suffered mechanical problems and stopped.

The three men approached the occupants of the Holden where an argument ensued, and the men demanded money.

One of the men produced a rifle and fired a shot into the front of the Holden. No one was injured during the incident.

The men took a small amount of property from the occupants of the Holden and fled in the Mitsubishi.

Officers from Campbelltown City Police Area Command were alerted and a short time later observed the Mitsubishi parked on Appin Road.

Two of the men ran from the vehicle and were arrested at gunpoint by the officers.

The third man was arrested a short time later at a nearby service station. Several items, including mobile phones and clothing, were also located and seized by the officers from both locations.

The three men aged 24, 25 and 29 were taken to Campbelltown Police Station where they were later charged with firearms, robbery and driving offences.

The men were refused bail to appear at Campbelltown Local Court today (Wednesday 30 January 2019).

Inquiries continue into the matter.
