Rocky road for five arrested
Every dog has its day, and the staunch efforts of police dog Rocky means today will likely be his, Victoria Police say.
The long-haired German shepherd helped police arrest five teens last night, who have now been charged following an alleged armed robbery in Essendon.
Officers were called to an address in Rose Street about 7.30pm after reports a 25-year-old man was assaulted and robbed by five males.
It is alleged the group arrived to the premises in a stolen Subaru Impreza, which was later spotted by police on Mount Alexander Road.
The car was allegedly abandoned on Riverside Avenue, Keilor, where the group fled on foot.
The Dog Squad was called in, with long-haired German Shepherd Rocky unleashed and helping to arrest four of the teens.
A fifth was arrested shortly beforehand after a brief foot pursuit by officers.
A 16-year-old from Dallas and 17-year-old from Broadmeadows have been charged with theft of motor vehicle, assault, theft and other related offences and have been remanded to appear at a children’s court.
A 16-year-old and 17-year-old from Broadmeadows, also charged with theft of motor vehicle, assault, theft and other related offences, have been bailed to appear at a children’s court at a later date.
An 18-year-old Broadmeadows man has been charged with theft of motor vehicle, assault, theft and other related offences and was bailed to appear at Broadmeadows Magistrates’ Court on 20 May.
Rocky is still enjoying a well-deserved rest after evidently barking up the right tree.
He’ll be inundated with treats in due course.
